Scottish Mixed Foursomes

Competition Format

Fourball Better Ball

All players play their own ball. The lowest gross score of the two partners is the score that will be entered on the scorecard. The handicaps for this format will be that each person will receive ¾. of their full handicap. The players will then take their strokes at the appropriate holes shown on the scorecard ie Ladies will play from the ladies stroke index and gents from the gents stroke index.

Greensomes

All players tee off. They then choose one of the tee shots, and then play alternate shots from there. The players should enter the gross score on the scorecard. Handicaps for this format will be under the rules of the “GREENSOMES HANDICAP”. The team handicap will be the sum of the lower handicap times 0.6. plus the higher handicap times 0.4. If the handicaps are equal then they will take half the combined total. Strokes will then be taken at the allocated holes from the GENTS MEDAL STROKE INDEX.

Foursomes

In foursomes the GENTS tee off at the ODD holes, with the LADIES teeing off at the EVEN holes. Players then play alternate shots until the hole is completed. The handicaps for this format will be ½ (half) the combined total, with the strokes being taken from the GENTS MEDAL STROKE INDEX.

Conditions of Play

Eligibility

This competition shall be open to amateur golfers who are members of a recognised Golf Club, and shall be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and in accordance with local course rules.

Handicap

The handicap limit is 18 for Gentlemen and 30 for Ladies. Handicap certificates must be provided.

The Competition

The Competition shall consist of 5 rounds of stableford scoring. The number of points gained each day will be added to the previous days total and displayed in time for the following day on the scoreboard at each host venue. The format consists of Foursomes, Greensomes and Better Ball. The competiton will be played over 3 venues each day with the same format being played at each course on each day’s play. Note that some players will play a different format from other competitors on the same day, depending on which course they are playing. Ties shall be decided by a card countback over the last 18, 9, 6, 3 or 1 hole(s) on the designated home course.

Prizes

Voucher prizes will be awarded to the best 6 stableford scores in the handicap section and thereafter to the next best 3 Seniors stableford scores. The Senior competition is secondary to the main Handicap event. Competitors who win Handicap prizes will not be eligible to win a Seniors prize. Vouchers will be awarded in order of the highest monetary value.

Start Times

Start times will be made available to all competitors prior to commencement of the golf week.

Competition Rules

All competitors must use golf balls which are listed by the R & A on their conforming ball list. The speed of play will be monitored and penalties will be issued where appropriate. The dress code at all participating clubs must be adhered to. The use of buggies will only be permitted with the prior consent of the Committee.
